Consultants believe rail line should be re-opene

Consultants developing a review of freight prospects for the Blayney – Cowra – Demondrille rail line are confident there is enough interest to warrant the reopening of the full length of the line.

The councils of Blayney, Cowra, Young, Harden and Weddin Shires are currently reviewing the draft report and plan to formally present it to the NSW Minister for Transport once it is accepted.

“Presenting the draft report to the Minister will allow the wheels to be set in motion for any further information or studies which may be required,” explained Mayor of Cowra, Bill West.

In preparing the report, the consultants contacted many businesses in the region to ascertain the likelihood that rail freight might benefit them.

“The consultants were pleased with the responses received, however, there is an element of doubt about the ability of container wagons to pass through the Carcoar tunnel,” Cr West said.

The draft report will be released to the public following its presentation to the Minister.
