Rail feasibility study on track

Rail Feasibility Study On Track - 11/12/2009

The Victorian Government is starting a feasibility study that will decide whether passenger rail is returned to a large area of north-west Victoria.

It has been 15 years since there was a passenger train on the Mildura line and the Government promised to restore it when it was elected in 1999.

Transport Minister Lynn Kosky says a feasibility study is now getting underway and it will hold consultation sessions in Mildura, Swan HIll, St Arnaud, Ouyen and Birchip.

She says the Government wants to know about all transport needs, not just rail.

"We really want to get a sense of what the needs are that are not currently being met and to find out particularly those movements between the towns rather than just within the towns," she said.
