Report Urges New Kingston Railway

A new report says Kingston railway station should be replaced with a more modern facility.

The new station would form part of a revamped Kingston-Eastlake precinct with residential and and commercial development.

The planning minister Andrew Barr says there will be public consultation on the plan.

"Whether it's in exactly the same location it is at the moment or a couple of hundred metres either side is a matter we can discuss as we go through the further development of the Eastlake precinct," he said.

"But the clear commitment is to have that passenger facility in the middle of this urban development."
