Job Description
Description: We have an opportunity for a Head – Communications on the Toronto LRT Project. We seek a strong Transit / Rail (T&R) Systems professional with excellent project management abilities. The focus of this position will be the engineering design and management of the project’s communication systems. The successful candidate will: Provide engineering program management/design services on this USD 8 billion project 120KM of Light Rail consisting of 95 stations and 4 lines; prepare design criteria for systems, distribution of communications/signals, relocation of utilities at surface and underground stations, and tunnels; develop drawings, specifications for communications infrastructure and on-board vehicle subsystems and conduct design reviews and approval of submittals; manage work packages of LRT line section contractors; assist in development of Concept of Operations plan, PMP scope, schedule, and procurement strategy for design build contracts. This individual will have expertise in: Engineering Program Management, conceptual design, requirements specifications, preparation of RFI/ RFP, procurement, and commissioning of communications infrastructure radio, optical transmission networks, CCTV/Life Safety, and Communications Based Train Control systems for T&R Systems. S/he will also be experienced in working with multi-disciplinary project teams, suppliers, contractors, governments and regulatory agencies in solving technical and business issues. A knowledge of LRT design standards and product /solution offers from leading vendors such as Siemens, Alcatel, and Alstrom are significant pluses; developing a scope of work, evaluating design options for both upgrading and integrating CCTV, Radio, SONET and SCADA systems for multi-modal transit stations with the proposed LRT operations control center and systems. Requirements: S/he will have a BS degree with a concentration in Civil Engineering Electronics, Systems or Communications Engineering. An advanced degree is a plus. Current professional engineering registration in Canada, the US, or overseas is preferred with 15 – 20 years related experience. Excellent technical, managerial and communication skills are required. Active participation in relevant technical and professional associations is a plus. Authorization to work in Canada is required.
