For our Passenger Maintenance and Services Division based in London, we are currently looking to recruit a:

VLU Project Manager
The Role

The role of the Project Manager within BT Services Division is business rather than technically oriented and carries with it full P&L responsibility for the project.
The Project Manager is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the London Underground (Victoria Line Upgrade) Project in terms of fulfilling the contracted obligations and operating within the standard pre-set governance framework of Bombardier Services Division and the prevailing local Business Unit organisational structure to which the Project is attached.

Your key Tasks & Responsibilities

Delivery.
Delivering the agreed project objective combinations which includes ensuring the specified performance levels are delivered to the appropriate quality. Scrutinising the project finance controls and accounts to ensure that EBIT delivery is solid followed by hunting for efficiency and overall business result and performance improvement. Ensuring all the necessary processes, procedures and controls are in place and are working effectively taking corrective action and adjustment as needed. Leading from the front.
Have a continuous improvement ethos running through all areas of the project and continually look to optimise processes and reduce expenditure to the minimum with a special focus an material spend volumes and timing.
Customer.
Getting to know and understand the customer thouroughly and setting up an appropriate set of communication mediums including reporting, contract review meetings, correspondence and points of contact. Work towards developing a professional and stable relationship much of which will naturally be derived from strong project performance. Look at how to expand the revenue stream if appropriate and carefully monitor scope and look to convert potential thorugh the Variation process.
Operations.
Operational delivery lies at the heart of the project and is the route through which success is achieved. The project will require implementation of a lean and systematic approach to the operations environment ensuring good practice. Special attention to the Bombardier Operation System BOS will be required comprising: Built-In Quality, Short Lead Time, People Involvement, Standardisation and Continuous Improvement. The Project Manager will lead the manufacturing excellence ethos and commitment on the project and take a particular pride in this aspect of the business.
Performance Reporting.
Ensure that all the necessary project reporting requirements are carefully observed. Institute the appropriate governance process and measures for the project as a whole and for the indivudual contributing functions. Work to ensure that reporting is useful and informative whilst also being a natural feature of the regular management information produced on the project and not just an adjunct created for the sole purpose of reporting.
People.
Design and implement an optimal organisational structure for the delivery of the project. Ensure that there is a strong focus on improving performance and skills and that the Bombardier Performance Management Programme is running well and used as the foundation stone to drive this forward. Regularly review team dynamics and effectiveness and effect changes where required. Strive to become highly accomplished in the management and leadership of the team.

Your Experience and Qualifications

The nature of the Project Manager role in BT Services Division is challenging and rewarding and requires the candidate to be an accomplished practitioner in each of the following four quadrant skill sets:-
1. Project Management Technical
Understands and well versed in the use of all the regular aspects of Project Management process and their application in a live and pressured project environment. Has the capability to execute Project Launch effectively and appropriately for the particular project and product. Understands the operations aspects of the project and feels comfortable managing this.
2. Management and Leadership.
Constructing leading and motivating a high performing and enabled project team is fundamental to achieving successful project outcomes. Bombardier also operates in a matrix structure and as such the Project Manager should have the capability to forge excellent functional relationships to ensure that the necessary resources or support is made available and deployed at the right time and in the correct sequence. As a leader the Project Manager will feel comfortable with the adoption of a series of leadership styles in accordance with prevailing environmental factors.
Has the ability to engender excellent customer relationships and works to develop these and foster a culture of customer focus within the framework of a mutually beneficial professional business arrangement.
3. Contract and Commercial.
Comfortable with the interpretation and articulation of the contract conditions, experienced in contract administration with excellent written and oral expression in English . Knows the value of record keeping and how this can be effective in the delivery of the project. Takes time to work out and plot potential scenarios and the associated commercial impact, along with aligned project strategic formulation to optimise performance and influence results. Identifies and delivers opportunity on the project and knows how this is achieved and maximised. Practiced communicator.
Feels at home with all financial aspects of the project and is able to read and usefully interpret the financial performance of the project. Works with the Project Controller so that there is a high level of synergy and that the reporting and monitoring produced is valuable, useful and representative.
4. Business and Behavioural.
The Project is a business in its own right and is, as such, to be so managed, lead and organised by the Project Manager. The Project Manager will be able to demonstrate an appetite for driving and delivering success with a sound record of P&L achievement. An excellent negotiator that understands the customers own perfomance, record and operating context and the effects and impacts that act upon and influence the project(s). To similarly understand some or all of the projects principal suppliers. A gatherer of useful market intelligence with the ability to translate this into valuable meaning and use it in the business/project context.
A good appreciation of the regulatory environment and how it impacts and influences the project.
