Job Description

* Central Melbourne location- Rail growth industry
* USD 110k financial package
* Heavy mechanical engineering industry experience required

Rail is about to enter a sustained period of growth within Victoria, with the government set to spend USD 11.5bn on rail in the next few years alone. Included in this area of development is rollingstock, the trains, carriages and fleet.

Being a growth industry it is a highly sought after niche area for many engineers, but opportunities are limited. Therefore when an opportunity does arrive the expectations are high.

Our client is a national rail operator that specialises in rollingstock providing up to date advancements in the rail transport industry to its customers. With a new restructure having taken place, exciting times are ahead with new senior heads ready to take this massive organisation to the next level. And in doing so, they require the bodies to do so.

The engineer will provide design and innovative Rollingstock Engineering support to all assets operating in their business. This role will be responsible for the commercial, technical, risk management and financial aspects of key Rolling Stock projects. Key responsibilities will include the development of submissions (new equipment and or major modifications) technical specifications, feasibility studies, procurement and project delivery of new and updated/modified Wagons and/or Locomotives for use on the Australian railway network.

The ideal candidate must be mechanical engineering degree qualified with 2-5 years experience in a heavy engineering industry. Ideally a rail background would be beneficial but the client is aware this specific experience is hard to come by so they are open to similar heavy engineering backgrounds. Communication skills are absolute priority, therefore experience in this country is desired. You will have experience in solid mechanics, knowledge of static engineering, autocad skills and FEA Alot of the work will be within the steel business, upgrades, replacements and new build of new wagons, so similar experience preferred.

Our client is not interested in candidates from the automotive industry, prefer oil and gas, heavy industrial engineering.
