Job Description

Department & how it relates to the role

The Crossrail project aims to deliver 24 trains an hour through 23km of new subsurface railway infrastructure under central London, continuing outwards to the east and west over 76km of some of the most congested and complex rail infrastructure in the UK. The Crossrail project is jointly sponsored by the Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport for London (TfL) and is being developed via a joint-venture company Cross London Rail Links (CLRL). A significant amount of work is required to Network Rail’s surface network and the interfaces between Network Rail and CLRL, DfT & TfL are considerable. A project team has been formed within Network Rail to manage these going forward.

About the role (External)

You’ll be part of Network Rail’s major project to integrate Crossrail with the national rail network, whilst keeping the network fully operational.

As Senior Project Engineer, first and foremost, you’ll care about good design. You’ll ensure that appropriate technical expertise is provided to the project, which will include giving your specialist input as well as developing the Project Engineers who’ll report into you. You and your team will work alongside our design houses to ensure their designs work in practice, and to make sure designs provide all the functionality required by our sponsors. All this is to be achieved while providing value for money, and meeting all relevant standards.

You’ll be dealing with a real diversity of work including work to stations, new overhead lines or supporting new signalling.

You’ll be responsible for the engineering development of allocated proposals from clarification of remit to project completion. You’ll ensure allocated proposals are developed in accordance with Network Rail and industry standards and are compliant with Network Rail’s safety, environmental and other objectives.

You’ll need a thorough understanding of the design process across the Electrical Power disciplines as well as significant design experience in one of the main Electrical Power disciplines.

As part of your role, you’ll undertake Designated Project Engineer duties and be responsible for the line management of Project Engineers. You’ll monitor and ensure suitably qualified and experienced staff are employed to control engineering aspects of all projects.

Do you have….?

* Experience in option development and selection?
* Past E&P design experience within a rail environment, ideally including either signalling power supplies or OLE?
* Experience on a range of technically complex, varied and successful projects?
* Experience of working to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety)?
* An appreciation of the approval process?
* A relevant qualification and professional membership?
· Experience of managing and developing a small team?

Are you….?

* Able to deal with pressure?
* Adaptable? Project priorities can change and you’ll need to be flexible enough to adapt to new priorities.
* Customer-focused? You’ll need to fully understand our customers’ needs and make sure they are met through our design solutions.
* A clear communicator, who’s able to build successful working relationships and stand your ground when necessary?
