* Proven track record in delivering projects * Lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams on small to multimillion dollar projects * Strong engineering background With a challenging year behind us, we can take comfort in the fact that quarter four of last year saw a strong recovery in commodity prices, renewed investment in project development and capital raising, increases in recruitment activity and positive signs in general that things are once again gearing up and moving in the right direction. While many businesses showed little sign of revenue generating activity last year, EPCM consultancies and design houses around Perth are now assessing the availability of high calibre candidates currently looking for new challenges. We predict a large requirement of Senior Project Managers in order to drive the upcoming projects and take the reins of projects shelved during the economic downturn. WA will continue a strong focus on iron ore thanks to the ongoing demand for raw materials from China and all eyes are on the USD 116 billion BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto JV as well as multibillion dollar projects such as: Oakajee, Cape Lambert, Sino Iron Ore Project, West Pilbara Iron Ore Project. The strengthening of commodity prices has had a positive impact on production levels within the resources market, generating an increase in urgency within the producers to get capital improvement projects underway in effort to maximise output levels through 2010. Exciting times for the future mining of Uranium is still to come, as we all await the outcome of BHP Billiton’s BFS that could see their largest undeveloped resource getting the green light, possibly in March. Expertise in the delivery of rail projects is going to become a premium as the design and construction of thousands of kms of track comes underway for WA alone and thousands more for international locations, particularly in Africa. If word on the terrace is to be believed, design work will continue to flood from Africa, Indonesia and some farther flung countries in Northern Asia, Eastern Europe and South America – predominantly focused on copper, gold and coal projects. Many of these projects will be looking for WA based Project Managers to take the helm to adhere to strict deadlines and budgetary constraints, all the while delivering these schemes to the level of engineering excellence that Perth has become renowned for within the Resources & Energy sector.
